Creative freedom, independence and a shared vision of fashion inspired François Chastang and Arnaud de Louvencourt to create NationalStandard in 2010. National Standard is part of a new generation of creative and independent Paris-based brands. The founders have tapped into their experience in the worlds of fashion and luxury to construct a global brand, developed around footwear, and in particular their key item, the sneaker. The collection is also aimed at women, with a line of signature sneakers. For François Chastang and Arnaud de Louvencourt, the simplicity and quality of their designs is a priority. They place an intense focus on details and high-quality materials when creating their products, utilizing smooth nappa, sueded nappa, grained, patent and vintage leathers, and nubuck. Colors are neutral, natural, and always the right shade: coal, graphite, cement, mink, taupe, off-white, all set off with sometimes electric injections of contrast color. The fusion of details like velcro, quilted ankles and waxed laces creates a balance between originality and aesthetic purity. The shoes are produced at a factory in Portugal famed for its savoir-faire. « We managed to find the perfect manufacturing partner. This vital step allowed us to realize our ambitions, refine our products and define our style ». The founder's highly hands-on participation in all aspects of the process ensures a premium quality product, with a retail price range of €150-€250 The collection has met with instant success. Sold through a few dozen multibrand stores both in France and internationally, NationalStandard is notably stocked by Le Bon Marché, Menlook and The Corner. François and Arnaud have also developed an accessories collection for winter 2013. Travel bags, totes and small leather goods serve to bolster the current offering. It's proving to be an essential extra outlet of expression for these two independent designers, ever on the lookout to set a new standard.
