Exuding youth, but with a mature appreciation for silhouette and shape, Brisbane label Soot was founded in 2011 by young designer Edwina Sinclair. Drawing her inspirations from her environment, Sinclair strives to create garments that incorporate luxury and texture and form with a touch of irreverence. The Autumn/Winter collection ‘POP’ is a showcase of Sinclair’s final years work at the Queensland University of Technology. The garments focus on luxury and texture, whilst exploring knitwear and rich fabrics through playful silhouettes. Sinclair studied in London n 2012, and became fascinated by the Barbican Centre, one of London’s best examples of Brutalist architecture, with its angular geometrics, stark form and hard materials. It became the beginning inspiration for her graduate collection, form- ing some of the original silhouettes. Immersing herself in the world of knitwear, textures and yarns in London gave her the inspiration for her textiles. Experimenting as she created the range, Sinclair wanted to create tongue in cheek, luxurious designs, that played with texture. The silhouettes are exaggerated and contrasted by the dramatic knitwear in its pop colour palette of lemon yellow, candy pink and pale blue. All clothing is designed and made in Brisbane, Australia. Edwina studied at the Queensland University of Technology and graduate in 2013 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Fashion).
