Uye Surana (pronounced Yoo Sur-rah-nuh) is a New York based and manufactured label that blends lingerie, loungewear, and clothing seamlessly into women's wardrobes for an effortless sense of fashion. The designer, Monica Wesley, formed the name Uye Surana as an alias for her label from family names. She keeps her line both layerable and easy-to-wear. What you will find is clothing in which you can be comfortable, beautiful, and unique - clothing in which you can be yourself. Monica grew up fusing interesting materials together as a means of self-expression in an artistic home in Chicago with a mother and father who inherently taught her how to make things materialize in both a creative and business sense. She honed her skills at Parsons School of Design, where she graduated with a BFA in fashion after previously studying at The School of the Art Institute where she enhanced her creative development. The name Uye Surana is an alias for Monica founded in 2010 (with its first collection in Fall/Winter 2012) from a mix of family names. The name hides the disconnect between the designer's ethnic and cultural identity growing up in the Midwest of Japanese-Polish-German-American descent with an Anglicized last name. Many of her pieces are made in New York City and Brooklyn with specialty one-of-a-kind features. She strives to connect you to the foundation of dressing and your individuality.
