WAYNE is a collection that reflects designer Wayne Lee’s futuristic concept of dress. After working as a buyer at Barneys New York, Wayne launched her eponymous collection in 2007. A year later, she won the prestigious Ecco Domani Fashion Fund award, establishing her status as a formidable new designer. Wayne was also one of the finalists for the 2009 CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund. Born in Vietnam in 1974 to Chinese parents, Wayne draws strength from her childhood experiences in the war, and her family’s dramatic escape to the United States. This resilience continues to guide her designs for the self-actualizing, confident woman. A graduate of Vassar College Wayne Lee’s interest in a fashion career came as a shock to her friends and family. Withdrawing from her second year in medical school at UC Berkeley, she moved to New York City to pursue her passion. Always with a nod to advancements in technology, WAYNE experiments with coated fabrics, industrial metals, and washed leathers while keeping her designs minimal and sleek – remolding classic silhouettes into new defiant proporations.
