All things Indie

Because we like to think of ourselves as an emerging platform, this week’s list is all about appreciating people with independent mindsets. Here’s to the indies who are going their own way…

In the age of Amazon it’s sometimes easy to forget the joy of entering a real bookstore. A small local east-London shop with a well-curated selection of titles, Libreria will remind you. The best bit? All books are sorted according to themes such as ‘bad-feminist’ and ‘wander-lust’.

When the thought of browsing aimlessly through Netflix homepage fills me with despair I go to Mubi. Clearly a passion project of film nerds, Mubi is not about crowd pleasers. With 30 arthouse films at any given time, it gives a new meaning to the word curated. And even if every month I only get to watch a couple, I still want Mubi in my life.

Ask VEJA’s founders why they chose to start a trainer brand and they’ll tell you that it’s a product that symbolises our generation but also the major issues of globalisation through production, dissemination and usage. Their industry-disrupting designs are made from fairtrade and organic materials and are such a force for good that I genuinely don’t mind that this indie is exploding into the mainstream.

Daphne Javitch, ex-fashion entrepreneur, is now a holistic nutritionist with an inspiring and informative Instagram account: @doingwell. Providing almost daily wellness tips and tricks accompanied by great imagery, she’s responsible for my daily dry brushing and appropriate water consumption.

Everpress is a marketplace and platform that enables independent creatives to make and sell their artwork in an apparel form with no risk or wastage. So if you’re a designer, illustrator or have a small music label check it out, if not mark it as a destination for cool t-shirts.

I only want good guys in my beauty routine from now on, so I’ve been seeking out some great under-the-radar skincare brands. One of my favourites is ROWSE, who are so small they only have one product at the moment. Their amazing Winter Body Oil is 100% natural, preservative and cruelty free and vegan.
