Lolo & Galago has a fascinating history leading up to its formation, and every jewellery collection we create overflows with our heritage from the past and our vision for the future. Lolo & Galago is owned by the Bermonts, a Russian family whose history dates back to Tsarist Russia where they were owners of mines in Siberia. Through their travels and exploration, they became purveyors of fine luxury jewellery and gemstones, amassing vast collections of beautiful pieces. After the revolution, the family lost much of what they had earned but managed to keep some of their beautiful treasures. After immigrating to Japan to escape the revolution, the family endured a turbulent period during the war before returning back to Russia to set up further businesses. Following their obsession for beautiful objects, the family wanted to create a contemporary brand specialising in luxury jewellery. From their World travels they wanted to draw on design, architecture and fashion to inspire their collections. The Bermonts teamed up with Amira Hatta, daughter to the famous Hatta family who had previously produced one-of-a-kind, groundbreaking pieces for Middle Eastern royalty and high society around the sub-continent. Hatta wanted to direct her experience in fine jewellery design and production into ready-to-wear jewellery. The company was launched with Hatta as head jeweller, partnering with other designers around the World, focusing on bringing the craftsmanship and expertise of traditional jewellery making together with contemporary inspiration for design. With a background from Russia, inspiration from across the Globe and the company founded in London, the owners believed it was a truly Worldwide brand, stretching from Lolo in the Pacific to Galago in Africa, and so Lolo & Galago was born.
