To a business woman working in fashion in 2015, the lack of choice in stylish low heeled shoes seemed inexplicable as the internet was awash with shoes. But other than the designer labels, low heels seemed stuck in a 1984 style warp. So I decided to make my own. Girlfriends talked wistfully about perfect shoes they once owned. Shoes that felt and looked glamorous. Shoes that really were comfortable. Shoes in which you could actually walk. Shoes that have proven impossible to replace. Because once you know your own style, what shape fits and what heel heights work for you, you don’t want to be a slave to fashion. Many a perfect low heeled shoe achieved hero status by solving a specific wardrobe challenge. What to wear instead of boots in spring? How to ‘do summer’ without open toes at work? What is the perfect shoe to wear with trousers? The answers are the inspiration that is curating the shapes and styles of the Olive Aubrey collection. The Sixties paid homage to fabulously designed low-heeled shoes that epitomised feminine style. Well-made, practical and often colourful, they were also a brilliant fusion of form and function. Made in Italy with a signature square toe and a palette of glorious colours, Olive Aubrey draws on the legacy of that extraordinary decade, creating low-heeled shoes referencing the nostalgic glamour that defined a generation of style icons. Shoes that I remember my mother Olive wearing, along with her Jackie-O sunglasses.
