Anaak’s light blush-pink Rosa maxi dress is crafted from cotton khadi that’s gently ruched through shirring and smocking on the bodice – two needlework techniques that are thought to originate as early as the 13th century. It suspends from slender adjustable shoulder straps into a ruffled square neckline, then a gathered empire hem flares out into a tiered skirt.
Artist and textile designer Marissa Maximo works with small artisanal communities, especially disadvantaged women, to create her breezy, free-spirited dresses and separates in an environmentally-conscious way, using natural fibres like cotton (organic where possible) voile, muslin and silk, and non-toxic vegetable dyes.
