Jacquemus’ latest collection reads like a love letter to the raffia palm tree, using its fibres to whip up everything from handbags to corsets. In fact, who needs precious metals when you can use the natural material to sculpt jewellery, too? The label’s Les Créoles Raphia hoops are made in Italy from strands of raffia straw that have been tightly woven to form the oversized silhouette. Gleaming gold-toned brass hardware finishes things off.
Essentially pared back and minimalist, self-taught French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus pairs tradition and modernity with playful irreverence. Classic references meet with unexpected proportions and distinctive details, in collections that are youthful, fresh, yet with a timeless elegance.
