Veja is creating a new path for footwear by looking beyond mass manufacturing and towards more eco-friendly production methods. The Rio Branco trainers are a product of this process; they’re crafted with a mix of organic cotton and recycled polyester, then topped with suede panels set on a wild rubber sole (sourced from the Amazonian forest, no less). No-one need question where they’re from either; thanks to the signature V at the side, they’ll just know.
A cult destination for trainers, VEJA is a sustainability success story. Sourcing natural rubber directly from farmers in the Amazon rainforest, VEJA prides itself on transparency, fair trade practices and ecologically-minded agriculture, ‘infusing each stage of production with a positive impact’. Proof that style and a social conscience can co-exist.
'Made with 70% organic cotton and 30% recycled polyester. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, uses less water and emits up to 46% less greenhouse gas than non-organic. Recycled polyester reduces waste, uses fewer natural resources and has a lower environmental impact.'
