Judy Wu, London-based designer, was raised in Shanghai, China before moving to London to study Womenswear Design at Central Saint Martins. Upon graduating, Judy Wu has worked at House of Holland, Jasmine De Milo and NE•TIGER (a couture house in Shanghai) before starting her eponymous label. Her designs represent chic elegance with a playful yet hard edge, combining structural pattern-cutting techniques to create truly unique garments. Judy Wu's debut Autumn/Winter 2013 collection 'A Crack in Time' was inspired by ancient Chinese totems, translateing her understanding of what was preserved from history into a contemporary language. The symbols of this ethnic group’s myths - the Dragon, the Cloud, the Wave, the Fire were recreated and presented through laser-cut techniques on tinted suede and leather. In one of Judy's signature pieces, a silky blouse dress has patterned suede panels connecting the body and the sleeves showing the dragons and the clouds continuously from the shoulders to the wrists. Another key element of Judy's collection is featured as abstract leather patchwork running along a pair of trousers and skirt which symbolises the fragments of the history which are long lost though time. Judy's Autumn/Winter 2013 collection 'A Crack in Time' has been successfully exhibited at the JFW International Fashion Fair in Tokyo and at Margin in London. This same collection was also featured in Drapers' 16th February 2013 issue. Judy Wu's designs are a reflection of her inner-self, capturing fragments of emotions that combine to create a unique and confident identity. Judy says, ‘I aim to form a synthesis of modern Eastern energy with cutting-edge Western design tradition to create standout inspirational fashion pieces that will last a lifetime.’
