La Portegna works with natural materials such as vegetable leather, which are more ecological. Vegetable leather unlike chrome leather (chemically treated), is treated with vegetable tree tannin and olive oil in a certified EU ecologically friendly process. The great thing about vegetable leather is the genuine and lush appearance, and best of all, it ages gracefully. All products are hand made. They are not done in “industrial factories or workshops” and that is why the products have a more intimate and natural touch, not the impersonal and mechanical feel of the big producers. Our products are handmade in villages in the south of Spain. Our vegetable tanned, leather is Spanish. We try to source the materials as close as possible from our ateliers. In a global era we are proud to deal with spanish artisans and designers. We believe that keeping the design and production cycle as close as posible helps us elaborate products with a stronger cultural identity. The products are designed for travel and everyday use. Whether you are in Heathrow airport or in an hacienda in Cuzco. They have to be simple, functional, robust and timeless.
