Born in Canada and graduating with BFA Hounours in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute in New York, USA , Michelle Lowe-Holder worked for several years in the industry...before returning to study for a MA in Knitwear at Central St. Martins, London ,UK After graduating the Michelle Lowe-Holder own label clothing collection was exhibited in” Browns” 2001 , followed by several “New Generation” sponsorships during London Fashion weeks - including on- schedule catwalk showings. MLH designed and sold womens fashion for 10 years including a collaboration with TOPSHOP ,producing for over 100 shops across the country and abroad. In 2009 LCF and the College of Sustainable Fashion invited Michelle to attend a mentoring program to help develop a more sustainable approach. AW10 Collection “RIBBON RECLAIM” marked a big change in direction, in that it the MLH collections became accessories only and also an eco-hybrid label. Heritage handcrafts and vintage detail, zero waste and upcycling by using ends of lines and “cabbage” (scraps from previous collections) with UK production is now integral to the collection. Collections are now exhibited bi-annually in Paris @ Premiere Classe during Paris Fashion Weeks and sold in speciality high end boutiques internationally. Michelle Lowe-Holder has also been involved with projects with the Science Museum, M&S SHWOP, and NIKE whilst continuing to lecture at Istituto Marangoni. Ongoing project includes a recent Grant Award from “FIREUP” to develop 3D printed pieces to be realized by Feb. 2014. October 2013 Michelle joined a group of designers from the London to work with a Norwegian Museum group “Made in Osteroy” to work with heritage crafts people to develop new designs for exhibition in Norway and London. Italien Vogue also commissioned a video presentation of Michelle Lowe-Holder work for thier annual fashion event this year in Dubai 2013 .
