Ros Millar is a young, award-winning designer originally from Northern Ireland. Growing up on the coast of North Down Ros developed a love and passion for jewellery before going on to study the subject at university. Having graduated in June 2009 and now an established jewellery designer/maker with her own studio in London she offers beautiful, exciting, and innovative high quality pieces reflecting her own unique vision. Her latest work comprises a range of organically inspired gold and silver jewellery focusing on rings and neckpieces, which are crafted using a combination of, age old and modern methods. In her designs and processes she applies traditional techniques in a new and original form to achieve an exciting contemporary style which has been described as having a ‘Gothic Luxe Edge’. Her jewellery incorporates modern themes and acknowledges the influence of fashion but is often inspired by nature and her surroundings with the subtle influence of the making process adding a particular unique quality. Ros combines her conceptual and production skills in her exploration of material and colours, employing novel processes such as cuttlebone casting and photo-etching. Utilising natural bone from the cuttlefish, the technique dates backs to the Renaissance. Each unique mould is hand carved in the cuttlefish bone and may be used only once, and as a consequence each piece is imbued with that unique sparkle of distinction and timeless beauty which is the essence of the Ros Millar brand.
