Rosh Mahtani asked herself the question, “where is home?” To land on an answer the jeweller travelled back to Zambia where she grew up to find inspiration for the Alighieri collection The Shield of Poetry earrings belong to. Echoing her thoughts that “we are all collecting fragments from the places we’ve been ... to create a sense of identity”, they’re rendered in 24-carat gold-plated bronze shaped to curved crescent-moon silhouettes framed by beading and stamped with a hole on each.
Founded in 2014, Alighieri creates jewellery inspired by Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy’. Its ‘Modern Heirlooms’ are all handcrafted in London. Core pieces are cast in recycled bronze before being plated in gold, or made in solid sterling silver, supplied by certified members of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
